Community Theater _ Tanga coastal villages

~~Community theatre is one of the most effective tool for public awareness rising. This tool reaches wide range of community from children, youth and elders if not women and men at same time and place. This tool tends to provoke dialogue amongst audiences from the addressed or performed issues, this means the tool gives communities opportunity to discuss and share issues within their community while also looking for short and long term solution. During one of the community theatre conducted by Sea Sense, an environment NGO helping Tanzania coastal community protecting marine life with its concentration on endangered marine species and their habitats. Issues addressed in this theatre were: • Good governance and strong leadership • Endangered marine species and their habitats with its conservation significant • Illegal fishing practices and their implications to the environment and coastal community livelihood • Poor waste management (lack of having and using safe and clean toilets/latrines) with its implications to human health, solid waste management (plastics) • Sea Turtle slaughtering against Tanzania fisheries legislations • Roles and responsibilities of community on conservation and management of coastal and marines resources (fighting against illegalities, demanding accountabilities from leaders and their fellow community members) • Sense of community resource ownership
